On Monday the 13th of April French president Macron has prohibited all events until half July. This means that the Tour de France cannot take place on the planned date. But when will it take place? After two days of speculation the UCI and the ASO have revealed the new date of the Tour de France. The Tour de France will take place from the 29th of August until the 20th of September. Because of this, La Vuelta cannot take place in August. This also means that the planned stages of La Vuelta Holanda will not be ridden on the planned dates (August 14, 15, and 16).
What this means for the the cyclosportives on the 8th and 9th of August is still unclear. First, we will have to wait for the new start date of La Vuelta 2020. The UCI will be consulting with the Spanish project organisation in the upcoming period. As soon as a new date has been revealed, the Spanish and Dutch project organisations will take a look at the consequences. The event is big, uses the public roads, starts in three different Dutch cities and goes through 31 municipalities, so there is a lot to discuss and to arrange. The organisation of the cyclosportives is also very complex, so this must also be elaborated and researched.
We are gutted about this situation and hope that there will be clarity soon. For us, as an organisation, but also for the participants and the involved parties. Of course, we are keeping a close eye on the developments and we try to keep you up to date with the latest news through our channels. It is now a matter of waiting to see what will be decided about La Vuelta 2020 in the upcoming weeks.
