Vuelta route in the Netherlands unveiled again
In Madrid today, the route of La Vuelta 2022 was announced. The first three days will take place on Dutch soil. After two years of postponement, the 77th edition will start on August the 19th in Utrecht, followed by two stages through the Utrecht and Brabant landscape.
"Both the two provinces, the three cities, and the 34 course municipalities have been in the starting blocks for some time," says Utrecht alderman Klaas Verschuure. "And so are the many volunteers, companies, sports clubs and schools who all want to make a beautiful event of La Vuelta Holanda in their neighbourhood. I think everyone is really looking forward to it!" He spoke at the presentation in Madrid as a representative of the organising committee, which is made up of the Provinces of North Brabant (BrabantSport) and Utrecht and the cities of Breda, 's-Hertogenbosch and Utrecht.
After the team presentation on August 18th, La Vuelta will travel through the Netherlands for three days.
Klaas Verschuure: "I have already had a look at the route in the city of Utrecht: it needs little to no adjustments, because the streets are still in good condition. Utrecht has some experience. We have previously hosted the Giro d'Italia (2010) and the Tour de France (2015). With the arrival of La Vuelta, we will soon be the first city in the world to host all three major cycling tours."

Saturday August 20th: Stage 's-Hertogenbosch - Utrecht

On August 19th the 77th edition of La Vuelta will start with a team time trial. Among the twenty-three participating teams there are guaranteed to be two with a clear Dutch flavor, Jumbo-Visma and Team DSM. Possibly the Alpecin-Fenix team will be added. These teams were very successful in the last Vuelta, with several stage wins and the overall victory for Primož Roglič.
A day later the peloton will leave 's-Hertogenbosch for a stage back to Utrecht. Alderman Huib van Olden of 's-Hertogenbosch: "We are proud to welcome the international top cyclists to the heart of our city. Everyone is therefore cordially invited to give the riders a warm welcome to 's-Hertogenbosch. We will be celebrating the whole day with the 'Plaza Vuelta' as the sparkling centrepiece.
On Sunday August 21st, the peloton gets to know the Brabant countryside. Alderman Daan Quaars of Breda: "I am incredibly proud that we, as Breda, are allowed to host the third stage in 2022. With the start in Breda, the finish in Breda and the rest of the course going through beautiful West-Brabant, the region where cycling is at its heart!
